Restorative Approaches in Housing

Restorative Approaches in Housing (RAIH) is a specialist training and conflict resolution consultancy with over 25 years' experience managing neighbour nuisance and anti-social behaviour in social housing.

RAIH works with Registered Providers of Social Housing to encourage individual and community responsibility by using restorative justice and mediation practices to resolve neighbour disputes.

Managing neighbour disputes is a challenging, time consuming and expensive task for housing staff. RAIH provides an independent and impartial service to neighbours where communication between the parties has broken down.

RAIH will work directly with neighbours to establish the issues, and talk about what needs to be done to make things better. A face to face meeting is arranged in a neutral environment where neighbours talk about their issues, find solutions and make their own agreements for the future.

RAIH is experienced in restorative and mediation practices and will apply the most appropriate process to ensure the best outcome for those involved.

Using a restorative approach in housing is now recognised as an effective early intervention technique and demonstrates a genuine commitment from landlords to sustain tenancies and their neighbourhoods. In addition to undertaking casework RAIH provides specialist training and advice to housing staff.
